The decommissioned Sofienberg church becomes a multi-purpose venue through adaptive reuse, funded by NOK 26 million in grants. The solution prioritises careful, reversible interventions within the listed interior.

A runway stage set across the church nave — stage design for Tigerstadsteatret’s Romeo and Juliet, Oslo East/West, held between cast-iron trusses and stained glass.

The cabin is raised over a steep, birch-covered hillside — a dark facade and large reflective windows with minimal disturbance to the rocks and autumn birches.

Corner glazing reveals a preserved log core integrated within a new volume — a triple-glazed façade opening the living area to the birch forest.

Where oak meets stone, the joint is left to speak — brass, timber and travertine held in a single, honest connection.
